Every week there was a Shoutout moment (praise a coworker, feel-good nonsense). But it was all BS. No raise, no bonus, just empty words. Once I caught on, I started shouting out coworkers for things they never even did, just to mess with the boss. We’d lock eyes and try not to laugh.

They sent everyone home between Christmas and New Year’s “to cut costs.” Staff got paid. Freelancers? Nothing. Two weeks unpaid — happy holidays! When we came back, the boss proudly announced we’d met our budget goals and handed out cupcakes. Two weeks later: surprise reorg. Everyone got laid off. Including the boss. She got clowned too. Who would’ve thought?
